Understanding the Game

Yesterday, the YDM girls team had a friendly match with the SAS girls team at St. Andrew's school court. Basically, I didn't know how I got into the team but I thank God for the opportunity. I have never been involved in any REAL basketball game per-say and I'm just one who plays "for fun!" I didn't really understood the game and all I ever enjoyed was shooting hoops and running around the court like a monkey on a lose. Haha...Sad but true! Ask some of my girl mates and you'll find out that I'm one of those who screams in the middle of the game while running around with the ball. =P

During my high school years, I've always wanted to join the school team but because during my time the school was prioritizing on the local students to join tournaments and therefore didn't get the chance to actually train and get involved with any kinda game. I was labeled as the "Prima-Ballerina" and my P.E. teacher didn't take my interest in the game seriously. =( It just blew up my self-esteem.

I'm one of of those who get discouraged easily when looked down on. So during that time I didn't get into the team I took a 360 degrees turn away from basketball and just went on with something I was better at, and that was Dancing!

But all that just about changed when I got involved with the YDM team (thats about 7 years after). It taught me that you don't have to be the best to be a part of the team and playing Isn't always about competition but about loving the game with humility on the court. It was a challenge I had to face right after being rejected ones. But I knew that I still had the passion for the game and didn't wanna let the past bring me down.

We were given training by some of the guys at YDM and it was great! I never actually thought I'd get to the level of playing a real basketball game and it felt good. It boost up my confidence and this time, there were less screaming on the court. HAHAHA =P Thanx to my bro too that he gave me encouragement to step up to the game and even lending me some of his basketball shorts which were too big on me but what the heck! =P hahaha....

Looking at the basketball court diagram, I never actually understood what every single position meant nor was I actually aware of where each would stand. Thanx to Ben, my bro, T, Wes,Jack and Lorene who helped out at the training. =) haha... This time, we know!!! Takes alota practice...

1. Point Guard
2. Shooting Guard
3. Small forward

4. Power forward

5. Centre

Yesterday's friendly match was my first ever challenge. The SAS girls were pretty intimidating and BIG! =P hahaha... Most of us in the YDM team were beginners and therefore it felt like a wild stampede on the court against the bigger girls. HAHA =P But we did our best and we played for the love of the game. This was a lesson to learn from and I was inspired by some of the girls who can play and was encouraged by those who can't play. Teamwork was all it takes and having Christ in the team was just everything the team needed. And I thank God for everything! Though we may have loss the game but still we are winners in Christ! =)

P.S. Thanx for the support kuya Stephen!!!
