My Guitar Heroes

I would often wonder how it would be like to be as great as these guitar heroes. Just by admiring those talented hands they've got from fret to fret and chord to chord. I even had a dream once of attending Carlos Santana's music school in high school after graduating my O's. LOL... But that dream would remain a dream.

I've grown up in a music oriented environment as my dad would always play his favorite artists, from blues to rock, Soul to Jazz and from Funk to Fock. As a child, my dad and I would sing to the Beatles as he would drive me off to school. More often, he would shop for new cassette's of the latest albums by Eric Clapton, Spiral Stair Case, George Benson and other favorites. I'd hear my dad unwrap the plastic covering as it crackles and opens to check out the album insert. I would hear him sing along to the songs with full emotion like as though he was having his own mini concert in the living room. hahah.. no kidding! I guess that's where I got it from. hehe...

Memories of my childhood just flashes back when listening to old tunes from Guns and Roses, Queens, Jimi Hendrix, Prince, Led Zeppelin, The Everly Brothers, Simon & Garfunkel, Deep Purple, Bryan Adams, Chicago, The Temptations, Earth Wind & Fire, Bob Marley, Alanis Morisette, Rollingstones, Metallica, The Eagles, The Allman Brothers Band and the list just goes on...

Alanis Morisette and Sheryl Crow were one of my favourite rockers during the time i started showing interest in guitars. It just amazed me that women can rock too. Then the newer generation started coming in such as Michelle Branch and Avril Lavigne. I was even more inspired seeing girls around my age, at that time, rocking out on their guitars. It was like, WOW! And I thought, I wanna be that girl - rocking it!

It takes a lot of effort, practice and patience to be in that level of commitment. That just wasn't me, especially when your tryna teach yourself to play. But on my 14th birthday, a pretty close friend decided to get me an affordable, acoustic guitar. This just changed the whole I'm-too-lazy-to-learn- mode. Instead, I got my classmates and I to help each other around in our guitar learning. It made things easier and I got more inspiration to improve myself thoroughly. Years passed, and today on my 21 years of age, I've been blessed to play the instrument in a better place. I have never imagined to be playing with other awesome musicians such as my church mates. It's deffinitely an honour to be a part of a worship team, where every talented musician gather twice a week for practices and tryna learn from one another. It helps improve the rusty areas after not having able to play after highschool. LOL...

This time around, I wanna push myself a lil more further in my techniques. To be out there, rockin' out for Jesus and not for the sake of just playing. In fact, playing over the years made me discover my style rather clearly. It's just that simple note of Jazz and Blues that make me wanna go further as I play the instrument. Its my type of Music. Even ever since I started listening to some of my dad's collections of B.B king, Eric Clapton, Prince, Buddy Guy, George Benson, Ray Charles and Jimi Hendrix, my passion for music just became happening. Like, Wow! hehe... As John Mayer ones said in an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine...

"I am attracted to what I don't know. Everyone else I knew said things like, "I watched him play and made me wanna quit." I never wanted to put the guitar down. I watched guys who made me wana pick it up. That's when you have the disease: you get your butt kicked, and you say "I'm going to figure out why I lost that fight."

I love that spirit. I don't wana stop where I am right now. I wanna fight the battle. What it takes to get better, I'll get there where my God will take me in this music of ministry. hehehe...
